Hello! My name is Luke. With over 8 years in the welding and fabrication industry, I am excited to share what I know about welding! I enjoy writing about all things welding and helping people like you get started in a welding career.

My Welding Career Journey

When I was finishing high school I wanted to steer clear of any student loans. I didn’t want debt and I didn’t have access to the cash that would be required to go to college, so I set my sights on another way forward.

My main goal was to earn enough to provide for a family without spending a lot of time and money on a standard college education.

I knew that a welding career could pay well, and not require a college education. Having this in mind, I put myself in proximity to the industry.

My First Steps: Starting a Career at a Weld Shop

My career in the welding and fabrication industry began over 8 years ago. Knowing that I wanted to become a welder, I applied for a job at a welding and fabrication shop.

I submitted my application and the company presented me with an offer to work on the clean-up crew. This wasn’t the exact offer that I was looking for, but it was a step in the right direction. Accepting this job offer put me in a position to absorb valuable knowledge about the industry.

Welding Trade School

After a few months of working on the clean-up crew, I took the opportunity to attend a nearby welding trade school. This allowed me to continue to work part-time with the same employer.

After completing the welding program, I returned to work full-time with the same employer.

Where Am I Now in My Welding Career?

With a few years of welding experience, I continue to use my welding knowledge with the same employer. With the knowledge and skills I have gained from my time as a welder, I now work in the sales department. Having years in the shop has brought valuable knowledge to my current job responsibilities.
